After making candy for years with an inexpensive glass thermometer, I was so excited to purchase something state of the art. Alas, the same flaw that others have mentioned (since I placed my order) quickly became evident…the clip does not hold the thermometer stable. Any stirring of the pot causes it to rock to one side or the other, or worse yet, to fall off the pan making a big mess.

    Don’t buy this thermometer!

I had the same problem with the thermometer flipping out of the pan. The picture shows a long clip which I thought would hold it into place really well (which it may if your pan has no lip at the top). It didn’t work for me at all.

This is junk if my experince is an example. Fell out of pot in the first 15 minute of making jam and totally quit working, no readout at all.

I rate this thermometer a 3 only because of it’s design. Most pans these days have a curved lip, which makes it hard to place this thermometer on the pan and stay in place. I finally tied it to the handle with a wire bread bag tie after I burned myself when it flipped out of the pan. Otherwise, this thermometer works wonderfully and is fairly accurate, which I liked very much. I liked the storage tube so that the rod couldn’t get damaged in between uses.
